Why so few family physicians are using telehealth: 6 survey findings

Just 15 percent of more than 1,500 randomly surveyed members of the American Academy of Family Physicians attest to using telehealth in their practices, even though most agreed using the technology would be advantageous for improving patient access and continuity of care.

Here are six additional findings from the survey.

Benefits of telehealth

  1. Improved access to care — 78 percent
  2. Improved continuity of care — 68 percent

Barriers to telehealth

  1. Lack of training —54 percent
  2. Lack of reimbursement — 53 percent
  3. Cost of equipment — 45 percent
  4. Potential liability issues — 41 percent
