York, Pa.-based WellSpan Health is going to start deploying Epic's EHR platform on May 5, according to a Reading Eagle report.
The implementation of the new platform will unify patient records across the six-hospital system, which also includes medical group offices, ambulatory locations and walk-in centers.
The new Epic platform will be rolled out over two phases. The first phase begins this week and will bring all WellSpan facilities in Lancaster and Lebanon counties onto the new platform. However, Mount Gretna, Pa.-based WellSpan Philhaven offices will not be included in the first phase of the roll out.
The second phase will start on Oct. 20, bringing all other WellSpan facilities online on the new system.
There may be temporary delays and longer wait times during the implementation process, health system officials warn.
"This transition means we'll have one EHR for our entire system, which also means one record for each patient, one registration system, one unified bill and one online patient portal, among other benefits," Tom McGann, MD, executive vice president for clinical practice at WellSpan Health, told the Reading Eagle.
