Department of Veterans Affairs will focus on a handful of goals in 2020, including strengthening its telehealth services and vendor management, according to GovernmentCIO.
VA CIO James Gfrerer shared the department's IT goals for next year during the FedHealth IT 100 event in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 2, according to the report.
Four things to know about VA's IT goals for 2020:
1. VA will continue to strengthen its IT workforce by collaborating with Federal CIO Council, which is a forum of federal CIOs.
2. The department will focus on growing its telehealth and Million Veteran Program services. MVP researches how genetics, lifestyle and military exposures affect health and illness.
3. VA will improve acquisition and vendor management.
"[We] have about a billion dollars of tap tech spending each year, and I can tell you that we're doing everything we can to be a better partner with the commercial sector because we need you — especially with our buy-versus-build strategy," Mr. Gfrerer said.
4. VA will expand its caregiver program, which is a required component of the Mission Act. The caregiver program helps provide qualifying veterans with in-home care.
