Thousands of medical records were found at a former Mid-Michigan physician's office that is now vacant, according to a WNEM TV5 report.
The state health department said a hospital or physician practice can take ownership of the records and dispose of them, according to the report. No one has taken this responsibility yet.
The office was once occupied by Cesar Casten, MD, who sold the practice, including the records, to Javaid Bashir, MD, in 2004. Dr. Bashir later transferred the office and records to William Sokoll, MD, according to the report. TV5 was not able to contact Dr. Sokoll.
