The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives held its CHIME13 Fall CIO Forum in Scottsdale, Ariz., last week, and the organization spotlighted several healthcare organizations and health IT leaders for their work over the past year.
Here are some of the key highlights from CHIME's forum.
1. Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health was recognized as CHIME's "Innovator of the Year" for its mobile tablet program. Sutter equipped more than 1,000 home care clinicians with secure mobile tablets with the hope of improving care in patients' homes.
2. Texas Children's Hospital in Houston received CHIME's 2013 Transformational Leadership Award for its work with an enterprise data warehouse solution, which hospital CIO Myra Davis said has led to $4.5 million in direct savings and benefits due to streamlined reporting.
3. CHIME awarded newly merged CHE Trinity Health and health IT conglomerate Cerner with the Collaboration Award for 2013 due to their work to reduce sepsis mortality.
4. Larry Grandia, one of the earliest healthcare CIOs who started out at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, received the Industry Leader Award for his 45 years of health IT leadership service.
5. Gary Barnes, CIO of Medical Center Health System in Odessa, Texas, was honored for his "outstanding service" and dedication to the CIO profession.
6. Pam McNutt, senior vice president and CIO of Methodist Health System in Dallas, and Bill Spooner, senior vice president and CIO of Sharp HealthCare in San Diego, were named co-recipients of CHIME's inaugural Federal Public Policy Award.
