The 21st Century Cures bill in Congress will not include more Medicare funding for telehealth.
Telehealth backers have been lobbying for more funding in the bill and will continue to lobby for the language in the bill to include telehealth. The group hopes to expand the number of telehealth services Medicare reimburses, according to Politico.
"A 21st Century Cures bill [that doesn't] reduce barriers to technology that increases patient access to care, improve care coordination and keeps patients out of high-cost settings is more like a 20th century bill," said Krista Drobac of the Alliance for Connected Care at a stakeholder meeting.
The Senate Commerce Committee will hold a hearing on telemedicine on April 21, and backers are expected to introduce new telehealth bills in Congress, according to the report.
