More than a third of provider organizations have put an IT initiative on hold during the past year due to a lack of qualified IT staffers, and a quarter are considering doing so, according to a recent survey from HIMSS Analytics.
Providers are facing various barriers to filling out their IT departments. A majority of the 200 IT executives said their organization was facing a lack of qualified candidates in their areas. Half reported qualified workers are being lured away by more lucrative offers from other organizations. Additionally, 40 percent said hiring vendors or consultants was too expensive.
About a fifth of provider organizations reported another barrier, such as budgetary limitations.
