Let's check-in with prominent EHR vendor Epic for the latest updates coming out of Verona, Wis.
1. After the Department of Defense awarded the Leidos, Cerner and Accenture team the DHMSM contract to overhaul the military health system's electronic records, the two teams that didn't win the bid had a couple of weeks to file a protest. The healthcare industry largely expected Epic to win the bid, so when the announcement came, many wondered if Epic would file a protest. Politico received confirmation that the deadline to file a protest passed, and neither Epic nor Allscripts contested the decision.
2. A study from Greythorn found health IT professionals, both full- and part-time, are most familiar with Epic's EMR system. Fifty-nine percent of full-time employees and 79 percent of part-time employees said this was the case.
3. The U.S. Coast Guard has been implementing Epic's EHR platform since 2012, and it recently announced it would use InterSystems' analytics and integration platform to connect its legacy record system to Epic's platform.
4. Epic founder and CEO Judy Faulkner was recently named to Forbes' "100 Richest People in Tech" list, landing at No. 80 on the list with a net worth of $2.6 billion. Ms. Faulkner is the only person on the list whose origin of wealth lies in healthcare.
5. Pinehurst, N.C.-based FirstHealth of the Carolinas plans to transition from McKesson's EHR platform to Epic's, a process expected to take approximately two years.
6. Bend (Ore.) Memorial Clinic completed its transition to Epic's EHR Aug. 6.
7. Iron River, Mich.-based NORTHSTAR Health System is also close to going live on Epic's EHR platform. The implementation is scheduled to be finished this month.
7. UMass Memorial Health Care in Worcester, Mass., announced plans to adopt Epic's EHR platform, a project expected tocost $700 million over the next 10 years.
