The National Institutes of Health has decided to separate its CIO position and the director of Center for Information Technology role into two positions, Federal News Network reported Jan. 12.
The decision comes after long-term CIO and director of CIT Andrea Norris retired at the end of December.
"With Ms. Norris' departure, we have the opportunity to reevaluate the technology leadership needs of the NIH. We view the roles of the CIT director and CIO director as distinct," an NIH spokesperson told Federal News Network. "The director of CIT needs to focus on the unique needs of NIH's research and clinical enterprise. And we hope to find an individual who can help the NIH institutes and centers advance their scientific goals."
