Cerner Corp. and diagnostic cardiology instrument manufacturer Mortara Instrument, its development partner, launched a software to import patient monitoring data into an EHR.
The system, called CareAware Waveform Management, displays waveforms and other physiological data on the hospital or clinic's EHR, making it available for analysis without the paper printout, according to a news release. The information is instead directly streamed to the EHR platform from the patient monitoring device. From there, providers can annotate the result, and alarms will be sent out if the data is strong enough to indicate a problem for the patient.
The University of Missouri Health Care in Columbia and Cerner collaborated with the Tiger Institute, a University of Missouri independent healthcare initiative, to test the waveform system with live data.
The system will help move hospitals further toward being paperless, meeting HIMSS Stage 7 criteria, according to the news release.
