MassChallenge HealthTech accelerator awards $220K to 5 digital health startups

MassChallenge, a Boston-based network of startup accelerators, awarded more than $200,000 in cash prizes on June 25 to a group of early-stage digital health companies in the 2019 HealthTech accelerator.

Healthcare industry experts chose the five winners from a cohort of 31 startups. Throughout the six-month program, the companies partnered with established leaders in the industry to develop digital solutions to some of the biggest challenges in healthcare. In total, according to Nick Dougherty, managing director of MassChallenge HealthTech, the cohort raised over $26 million in funding and earned $5 million in revenue.

The five winners, according to MassChallenge, are:

  • 1upHealth (Boston): provides patient data aggregation platform for app developers, providers, and patients; $100,000 Diamond Award and $10,000 WeHealth Startup Choice Award.
  • GoGoGrandparent (Mountain View, Calif.): helps older adults use on-demand transportation companies without needing a smartphone; $40,000 Platinum Award.
  • Pixm (Waltham, Mass.): develops AI technology that uses visual recognition to detect zero-day phishing attacks; $40,000 Platinum Award.
  • Marigold Health (Boston): provides mobile app for anonymous text-based group psychotherapy; $20,000 Judges' Choice Award.
  • Welnys (Jersey City, N.J.): produces analytics-based workplace wellness programs; $10,000 Mitre Women in Digital Health Award.
