Highmark partners with Quartet Health to coordinate mental health treatment

Highmark, the operator of Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in three states, will use Quartet Health's technology to improve the referral process for patients seeking psychiatrists, reports Forbes.

Quartet Health partners with payers and providers to better integrate behavioral healthcare into the care continuum by coordinating mental health treatment with psychiatrists. The technology will also mine millions of Highmark Blue Cross claims to identify patients with undiagnosed mental illnesses, according to the report. Additionally, Quartet can facilitate telehealth consultations.

"They will help us figure out who is diagnosed or should be diagnosed and we will use their technology to expedite and identify who is the appropriate mental health provider," said Duke Ruktanonchai, director of behavioral health at Highmark, to Forbes. "We can then give data back to the primary care provider so there is better coordination of the patient's care."

Highmark operates Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Delaware, serving 5.2 million people.
