HHS Displays Interim Final Rule for HIPAA Transaction Standards

As the deadline winds down for healthcare organizations to be in compliance with the HIPAA electronic administration transaction standards, the Department of Human Services has released an interim final rule regarding health plan eligibility and healthcare claim status, according to an AHA News Now report.

The rule also defines "operating rules" and explains the role of those operating rules in relation to the adopted transaction standards. Covered entities are required to comply with Version 5010 of HIPAA, the most updated standards, by Jan. 1, 2012.

Comments on the rule will be accepted through Sept. 6.
