HHS, CMS Seek Businesses to Test Future HIPAA Transaction Standards

HHS and CMS have issued a Sources Sought Notice to determine the ability of qualified businesses to participate in a pilot to test future electronic data interchange transaction standards under HIPAA.

The one-year pilots are designed to test the functionality, usability, interoperability and business usage of updated versions of ASC X12 standard transactions before they are adopted under HIPAA and the Affordable Care Act. The standards will be used for transactions regarding eligibility, claims, claim payment, authorization and claim status.

HHS and CMS aim to test new standards, such as X12 Version 6020, before they are recommended to avoid the need for addenda and subsequent delays, which occurred with versions 4010 and 5010.

Responses to the Sources Sought Notice are due Jan. 6.
