Charlotte, N.C.-based Premier, a group purchasing organization, has launched a new app allowing member organizations and suppliers to view product pricing on purchasing contracts.
While many healthcare apps are focused on the clinical side, Premier Connect Price Lookup targets materials management and the supply chain side of healthcare. The app provides data for approximately 6.75 million items from more than 1,000 suppliers, searchable by product description, product number or manufacturer name.
It also allows users to use and access the PremierConnect technology and social networking platform that compiles data on hospital discharges, evidence-based practices and annual provider purchases.
Apps providing cost transparency aren't new. For example, the winner of the 2014 Code-a-Palooza, Lyfechannel's Smart Health Hero, uses Medicare claims data to provide patients information to discuss healthcare costs with providers. However, this app is among the few geared toward offering cost transparency in the supply chain.
