Google is notifying employees whose personal information was compromised when a third-party benefits provider mistakenly sent a document containing such information to a benefits manager at a different company.
According to the May 9 notification letter submitted to the Office of the Attorney General of California, the benefits manager who received the document deleted it and notified the vendor. The vendor told Google of the incident, and Google launched an investigation.
Compromised information includes names and Social Security numbers. No other information about employees, benefits or dependents was included in the document, and Google reports there is no indication any information was misused or viewed by anyone other than the benefits manager, according to the notification letter.
