Detroit Medical Center notified roughly 1,500 patients after learning a former employee of a staffing agency contracted by the hospital compromised protected health information, reports The Detroit News.
The employee — who no longer works at the hospital and does not have access to DMC's computer systems —reportedly distributed patient information to unauthorized individuals who were not affiliated with the hospital. The staffing agency notified DMC, which subsequently notified law enforcement of the alleged theft.
The information exposure affected patients who visited the DMC between March 2015 and May 2016.
Becker's reached out to DMC for comment and will update as more information becomes available.
