Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai issued a proposal Aug. 8 that would maintain existing radiofrequency exposure limits, confirming the safety of 5G wireless technology use.
The FCC consulted with health agencies such as the FDA in assessing radiofrequency standards, according to Julius Knapp, chief of the FCC Office of Engineering and Technology, and deemed current limits, which are already "among the most stringent in the world for cell phones," safe for consumers.
Additionally, in a call with reporters after announcing the proposal, FCC officials explicitly stated that, at the current exposure limits, there is no evidence 5G radiofrequency poses any more of a health and safety risk than that of 3G or 4G technology, The Verge reports.
