A research consortium in Europe is working to design wearable, personalized health technology to help users manage mental health disorders, reports Digital Trends.
The AffecTech project is led by 15 early stage researchers across 11 European institutions. Its goal is to help people suffering from depression, anxiety or bipolar disorder practice better emotional regulation strategies in their everyday lives. The technology aims to improve users' self-awareness with a low-cost wearable device.
"The potential social impact of wearable health devices for these disorders is vast because emotional awareness and regulation are invaluable for daily functioning," the project's principal investigator Corina Sas, PhD, a professor at Lancaster (U.K.) University, told Digital Trends.
