Cogent Healthcare Data Security Lapse Affects 32k

The health information of 32,000 Cogent Healthcare patients was compromised in a security lapse by one of the Brentwood, Tenn.-based hospitalist company's vendors, according to a report in The Tennessean.

M2ComSys, a medical transcription vendor, stored the patients' information on an unsecured website, leaving the data potentially publicly accessible from May 5 to June 24, according to the report.
