As of November 2013, 93 percent of eligible hospitals had registered for CMS' electronic health record incentive programs and 86 percent had received a payment, according to a presentation given at a Health IT Policy Committee meeting Tuesday.
Eligible hospitals' attestation in core measures has remained strong, said presenter Robert Anthony, deputy director at the CMS Office of E-Health Standards and Service. Only one core objective, computerized physician order entry, had attestation levels less than 85 percent. However, hospitals' adoption of some other criteria has been lower than their adoption of core objectives, especially the public health objectives.
Mr. Anthony also noted attestation has historically spiked in January and February, and so far attestation rates among returning hospitals has met expectations.
Jennifer King, PhD, research and evaluation branch chief at ONC, said 86 percent of eligible hospitals that attested to meaningful use stage 1 used a primary vendor that had any 2014 Edition product as of Dec. 31. Among eligible physicians, this number was 70 percent.
