The U.K.'s National Health Services is launching six remote-monitoring pilot initiatives across seven areas to enable elderly patients and those with long-term conditions to manage their care from home.
At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, NHS England Chief Executive Simon Stevens said: "Over the next decade major health gains won't just come from a few 'miracle cures', but also from combining diverse breakthroughs in fields such as biosensors, medtech and drug discovery, mobile communications, and AI computing," according to The Telegraph. "Our new program aims to cut through the hype and test the practical benefits for patients when we bring together some of these most promising technologies in receptive environments inside the world's largest public, integrated health service."
Partners in the initiatives include Google's life sciences division, IBM and Philips, who are implementing remote-monitoring technology such has wearable skin sensors, predictive technology and technology to outfit households items with remote sensors for program participants.
