Blue Shield of California launches wearable tech to support physician note taking in EHR

Altais, a subsidiary of Blue Shield of California, will use Notable Health's artificial intelligence software for the Apple Watch to help physicians document discussions with patients in the EHR.

Paradise (Calif.) Medical Group physicians will be the first Blue Shield partner to begin using Apple Watches with Notable Health's wearable technology, which is now available to Altais network physicians.

Notable Health's technology uses machine learning and natural language processing to dissect the physician and patient's conversation and extract and record relevant information into the patient's EHR notes. After the visit, the AI-powered technology scans order entries and procedures to ensure the EHR generates accurate claims.

"Deploying our technology will improve data quality and help Blue Shield of California partners spend less time documenting care and more time delivering care," said Pranay Kapadia, CEO and co-founder of Notable Health, according to the news release. "We know that better data empowers better outcomes, and we're bridging the data divide between patients, their physicians, and payers."

Altais will also offer Notable Health's administrative platform to patients, which allows patients to check in for appointments on their smartphone as well as receive appointment reminders and insurance eligibility checks that can be pre-populated within a patient's chart.
