A new app helps patients find physicians based on Medicare provider and payment data.
BetterDoctor allows patients to search Medicare pricing data for procedures, as well as the number of procedures each physician has performed. Additionally, patients can see physician-to-physician referral data.
Ari Tulla, BetterDoctor co-founder and CEO, said in a news release he developed this app to help patients find the correct physician and to "give patients the transparency they deserve."
The app falls in line with the Code-a-Palooza challenge, tasking contestants to develop apps helping patients make health decisions using Medicare claims data, although it wasn't a participant. However, like Apple's HealthKit and Google Fit, such apps are empowering patients to become active players in their healthcare.
