Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota announced Nov. 13 that it will cover Omada Health's Type 2 Diabetes Digital Care program through its commercial plans.
Beginning January 2020, the digital diabetes program will be available for Minnesota employers. The program is designed to give patients more control over their health.
This is not the first time the two organizations have teamed up. In 2015, Blue Cross launched Omada's prediabetes program, which is used by thousands of members to assess their risk for diabetes.
"Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota has a strong record of providing support to people living with type 2 diabetes, from their investment in awareness and prevention to the recent announcement that the insurer would cover insulin costs at no charge," Omada Health CEO Sean Duffy said. "Our work together goes back six years, and the decision to expand our focus beyond diabetes prevention to include a type 2 diabetes management care manage program will provide an industry leading solution for Minnesota-based employers, and a personalized solution for individuals with type 2 diabetes."
