Though the details are vague, rumors are flying about a new Apple device separate from the Apple Watch and iPhone that collects and tracks user biodata, according to an Apple Insider report.
Mutterings about the new product suggest Apple's health development team may have been working on it for upwards of two years, and it will be capable of tracking metrics like pulse, changes in blood sugar and heart rate, among other information.
Recent Apple launches, like its CareKit, ResearchKit and HealthKit platforms, which allow developers to build out studies and apps, lay the groundwork for the company to move toward more healthcare offerings. Additionally, prior to his death, it was widely reported that Steve Jobs posed a challenge to his developers to use Apple's technology as a way to improve healthcare.
While no verifiable information has yet come to light, sources cite a possible 2017 launch for whatever it is that Apple has under wraps.
