LMG 3 Marketing and Development has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Apple for its HealthKit and Health App, alleging the medical records function of the app had already been patented, according to Patently Apple.
LMG invented and patented a portable device in 2002 for chronically ill patients to store their medical history that could be accessed virtually by healthcare providers, according to the report.
LMG alleged that while its device does not provide all the same functions as Apple's iPhone or iPad, the Health App and HealthKit use LMG's patented technology. LMG says Apple's presentation of the Health App as a revolutionary app for the healthcare industry disregards their invention.
The lawsuit was filed in New Jersey last week, according to the report.
