Anthem plans to roll out blockchain tool in 2020

Anthem plans to give its more than 40 million members more control over their medical records through blockchain solutions, according to Forbes.

"What blockchain potentially gives us the opportunity to do is not worry about those trust issues," said Anthem CEO Bail Boudreaux at the Forbes Healthcare Summit. "We have an opportunity to share data that people can make their own decisions on."

Currently, Anthem is testing a pilot program with around 200 company employees. Through an app, users scan a QR code and then can allow their healthcare provider to view their records for a limited amount of time. The app is powered by blockchain technology.

Anthem plans to lunch the blockchain feature to members in 2020.
