AMA to develop principles for generative AI in healthcare

The American Medical Association has decided that it will develop principles and recommendations for the benefits and pitfalls of generative artificial intelligence in healthcare, Politico reported June 13.

Due to the technology having "known issues," the group said it would be working with the government to prevent harm from generative AI as well as developing "principles and recommendations on the benefits and unforeseen consequences of relying on AI-generated medical advice."

The American Medical Association said that although the technology shows great potential in healthcare, specifically in reducing administrative burdens for providers, providers should use it with caution as it is not "error free."
