Health documentation artificial intelligence company Abridge has raised $12.5 million in series A-1 funding.
The Abridge artificial intelligence-based documentation technology is designed to help reduce physician burnout by generating clinical documentation, extracting medical information and creating evidence-based notes from patient conversations, allowing physicians to spend less time on administrative work. The Abridge AI tool has been used by more than 2,000 clinicians, according to the Aug. 11 Abridge news release.
The series A-1 funding round was led by Wittington Ventures. UPMC Enterprises, the venture capital arm of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, participated in the funding round.
"I became a cardiologist to help my patients improve their health, but the reality was that I was spending more time on my notes than with my patients," Shivdev Rao, MD, CEO and co-founder of Abridge, said. "Abridge is the solution I always wanted myself, as a physician and as a patient — an AI-based service that leverages conversations I had with my patients to not only draft my documentation but also with the capability to send detailed care plans to them and improve the quality of their care."
