CHOP's health equity center receives $1M grant

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Center for Health Equity received a $1 million grant from Bank of America, according to a July 21 press release.

Bank of America’s investment will provide startup funding for the center and enable a targeted health housing program to make more than 100 homes in West Philadelphia healthier, impacting more than 400 individuals.

CHOP Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Ron Keren, MD, said that children's health is greatly influenced by environmental and other factors beyond medical care.

"As much as 80 percent of a child’s health and well-being is linked to the conditions in their environment, like access to high quality education, healthy food, green spaces, clean air and water, and safe housing and neighborhoods. Building upon CHOP's five-year, $25 million Healthier Together initiative, the Center for Health Equity continues CHOP's commitment to addressing those factors as a path to improving children's overall health and well-being," Dr. Keren said.
