Pittsburgh-based UPMC has received a $28 million grant from New York state to improve its facility at UPMC Chautauqua in Western New York, according to a Spectrum News April 10 report.
The 40-hospital system received the money as part of a state program which funded 127 other hospitals across New York, the report said. In all, UPMC Chautauqua has received more than $55 million of state aid since it became affiliated with UPMC in 2016.
The most recent funding is set to expand all six operating rooms at the facility as well as build four new procedure rooms and expand storage. The work is expected to be complete within three years, according to the report.
The funding comes as Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey said he is targeting several facilities owned by UPMC in the city which should not enjoy their current tax-exempt status.
