Cleveland-based University Hospitals posted an operating loss of $256 million in 2023, an improvement from the $302 million operating loss it posted in 2022, according to its financial report released April 18.
Five things to know:
1. The health system posted a net loss of $48.4 million for the year ended Dec. 31 after posting a $480 million loss in 2022.
2. Total revenues were 5.9 billion, an 8.4% increase over 2022.
3. Total expenses were $6.1 billion, a 7.1% increase over 2022.
4. Salaries, wages and employee benefits increased 7.1% to $3.4 billion. Patient care supply expenses increased 10.7% to $1.4 billion.
5. University Hospitals saw a net investment income of $195.7 million in 2023, after seeing a $198 million investment loss in 2022.
