King of Prussia, Pa.-based Universal Health Services released its 2022 annual report April 6, highlighting key accomplishments, division updates and progress on capital growth and development.
"As we plan for the future, our most important priorities continue to be the delivery of compassionate patient care; profitable growth in attractive markets, business segments and care delivery venues; and maintaining our reputation as an industry leader and preferred provider, employer and partner," UHS President and CEO Marc Miller said in the report.
Six highlights:
1. In 2022, UHS provided care to more than 3.4 million patients and generated revenues of $13.4 billion, a 6 percent increase year over year. Expenses increased 9.7 percent year over year to $12.4 billion, while net income dropped 31.9 percent to $675.6 million.
2. The health system's acute care division had 312,000 inpatient admissions, 1.6 million patient days, 1.1 million outpatient visits, 33,750 deliveries and continued to expand its seven ACOs.
3. The behavioral health division served more than 730,000 patients, had 6.2 million patient days and added 391 inpatient beds at new and existing facilities.
4. UHS has 94,000 employees, including more than 1,700 physicians and 22,000 nurses.
5. The system has grown to include 28 acute care hospitals, 331 inpatient behavioral health facilities, 39 outpatient facilities, an insurance offering and a physician network.
6. UHS invested $734 million in equipment, facility expansions and renovations last year.
