Renevo, Pa.-based Bucktail Medical Center, which has been at risk of missing payroll and closing, is creating a GoFundMe page with the goal of raising $1.5 million, Penn Live reported Sept. 6.
So far, the campaign has raised $8,515. CEO Tim Reeves said he is cautiously optimistic about meeting the next payroll and said vendors, some of whom have not been paid on time, have cooperated.
The hospital in rural central Pennsylvania has been losing $150,000 per month for the last year as reimbursements lag behind rising costs. In 2015, the critical access hospital declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy but recovered three years later.
"We have exhausted every available option I can think of, and we are doing our best to implement projects to increase patient volumes and revenue," the GoFundMe post said. "But without help now, I fear we will not be open long and Western Clinton County could be without any healthcare services."
