Pensacola, Fla.-based Sacred Heart Health System plans to build a new standalone children's hospital, according to a Pensacola News Journal report.
The $125 million project would be built on the grounds of the current hospital in Pensacola.
Sacred Heart President and CEO Susan Davis said in the report, "We've done a lot to build children's services, but what I want is to bring it all into one building that is a healing place for children. That is built for children, and comfortable for children."
Ms. Davis anticipates the new facility will be four or five stories and be built out from the current hospital entrance, according to the report.
Ms. Davis' goal is for the new children's hospital to have private rooms in the new facility's neonatal unit, allowing mothers to bond with their children, according to the report.
Funding must still be secured for the project, and the project must be approved by St. Louis-based Ascension Health, of which Sacred Heart is a member.
