Rome Health sees $62M in projects over last year

With nearly $62 million in projects and renovations over the last year, Rome (N.Y.) Health has kept itself busy.

"At Rome Health, we are redefining what community-based health care looks like, one project at a time," Ryan Thompson, CFO of Rome Health, said in a statement shared with Becker's. "Health care is fiercely local so we're evolving our health care system to meet the needs of our community, based upon the master facility plan that we completed in 2020."

Most recently, the nonprofit health system broke ground on a $45.7 million project on the north side of its hospital. The 30,000-square-foot, three-floor surgical services center and new ICU will replace its current "aging operating rooms and intensive care unit," according to a Nov. 29 press release shared with Becker's.

Expected to be complete in phases over the next 24 to 30 months, the project is being funded through $29 million in private philanthropy and public funding partnerships, a $26 million New York state transformation grant, and $3 million in the city's American Rescue Plan Act funds.

"The $45.7 million capital project will enhance the experience for patients and their families while supporting the care team in delivering the best care out there here," AnneMarie Czyz, president and CEO of Rome Health, said in the release.

Prior to the surgical services center and ICU project, the system completed a $3.9 million Women's Surgical Suite project this March, a Rome Health spokesperson shared with Becker's. Adjacent to the system's maternity department, the suite was funded in part by a $3 million ARPA county investment and aims to support mothers who have either scheduled or require emergency procedures.

Other recent upgrades include the 2022 completion of an $800,000 renovation project on the system's 2 East medical and surgical unit rooms, with a mission to create a "calming environment" for patients.

In its second-largest project over the last year, Rome Health also opened an $11.4 million medical center on the hospital's main campus on Nov. 7, 2022, a press release shared with Becker's revealed. Bringing together primary care, surgical specialists, diagnostic testing and retail pharmacy, the 31,000-square-foot, two-story center features six care team pods and 42 total exam rooms.

"Our goal is to make it convenient for patients to get the quality care that they need," Mr. Thompson said. "In addition, we want to make it easy for clinicians to practice here so they can simply focus on delivering the best patient care."
