Revenue cycle management company R1 RCM named Alex Mandl lead director of the company's board, effective March 26.
Here are five things to know about Mr. Mandl.
1. He is an R1 board member, serving for nearly five years.
2. Mr. Mandl's other current positions include non-executive chairman of Gemalto N.V., member of Genpact Limited board, and principal of ASM Investments, according to R1.
3. Previously, Mr. Mandl served in a number of additional leadership positions. His past roles include director of Dell, Arise Virtual Solutions board member, and executive chairman of Gemalto, the company formed through the merger of Gemplus and Axalto. He also served as president and CEO of Gemplus; chairman and CEO of Teligent; and president and COO, as well as executive vice president and CFO, of AT&T.
4. The R1 board elected Mr. Mandl to the position after Steve Shulman resigned as board chairman and board member, effective April 2, "to pursue other interests," according to R1. The company's next board chairman has not yet been appointed.
5. Outside of Mr. Mandl's appointment, R1 also appointed Bert Zimmerli, executive vice president and CFO of Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare, to the company's board. Intermountain Healthcare acquired a $20 million stake in R1 in January, and revealed it would transfer roughly 2,300 nonclinical employees to R1.
