The new Florida Hospital Apopka is slated to have 120 patient rooms and cost $203 million, according to an Orlando Sentinel report.
That's more rooms than originally proposed, and a higher price tag. The hospital was originally projected to have 80 private rooms and previously had an estimated cost of $23 million, according to the report.
Plans, such as the number of patient rooms, were recently unveiled during a groundbreaking ceremony for the replacement facility, which is expected to open in spring 2017.
Once completed, the new Florida Hospital Apopka will reflect the character of Apopka by incorporating local greenery into the design and landscaping, according to a news release. In addition to 120 private patient rooms, plans for the hospital also include "architecture that will bring abundant natural light indoors," according to the hospital.
The hospital will continue to offer ER, cardiology and imaging services, and also plans to add surgical services and a diagnostic cath lab.
The new hospital is expected to generate up to 300 new job opportunities in both clinical and non-clinical areas.
