Saint Catherine's Hospital of Pennsylvania, LLC, which owns Saint Catherine Medical Center Fountain Springs in Ashland, Pa., has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to a Republican Herald report.
Saint Catherine Medical Center Fountain Springs is in immediate danger of closure, and President and CEO Merlyn Knapp said in a statement that, "We are evaluating all future options for Saint Catherine Medical Center, including a potential sale and reopening of the hospital."
The U.S. Department of Justice appointed William Schwab, JD, as the Chapter 11 trustee of the hospital, meaning he will take charge of the facilities. He said the future of the hospital will be determined after an investigation is conducted, adding that he is "hoping to turn it around," according to the report.
