Louisville, Ky.-based Norton Healthcare reported an operating income of $30.2 million (2.6% margin) in the second quarter, compared to a $7.9 million gain (0.9% margin) in the same period last year, according to financial results published Aug. 12.
Revenue increased 23.6% year over year to $1.14 billion while expenses grew by 22.4% to $1.07 billion.
In September, Norton acquired the remaining 75% stake in the Regional Health Network of Kentucky and Southern Indiana joint venture, which operated Clark Memorial Health in Jeffersonville and Scott Memorial Health in Scottsburg. The transaction ended a joint partnership with Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Health.
After accounting for nonoperating assets such as investment income, Norton reported a net income of $27.4 million in the second quarter, compared to $42.2 million in the same period in 2023.
Norton has five hospitals in Louisville and three in Southern Indiana. It plans to open another hospital in West Louisville, Ky., in late 2024.
