Nicklaus Children's receives $15M gift

Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Miami received a $15 million gift for its cancer and blood disorders institute from South Florida philanthropists Helen and Jacob Shaham.

In recognition, Nicklaus Children's has renamed the program as the Helen & Jacob Shaham Cancer & Blood Disorders Institute. The gift will ensure families of pediatric patients won't have to leave the state for treatment, the hospital said.

"We are incredibly thankful to Helen and Jacob Shaham for their remarkable generosity and commitment to the children and families of our community," Matthew Love, president and CEO of Nicklaus Children's Health System, said in an April 4 news release. "Their naming gift will be transformational for children with cancer and blood disorders, helping us advance our mission to inspire hope and promote lifelong health by providing the best care to every child."

The Shahams founded The Palace Group, a network of high-end assisted living facilities, in 1980.
