The New Jersey Department of Health will use an $80.5 million grant from the CDC to bolster public health workforce development and training, the department said Jan. 26.
The grant will be used to facilitate recruitment, advancement, and retention within the public health workforce through planning and professional development, the department said. It will also help state efforts to expand the NJDOH Centralized Data and Analytics Hub.
The state also plans to use the grant to bolster health equity in policy, programs and practice through the Office of Minority and Multicultural Health, the department said. It will also fund efforts to improve reproductive health, reduce health disparities and address social determinants of health.
The department will receive the grant money over the next five years, including $79.6 million in the first year. Funding in future years will be based on satisfactory programmatic progress and availability of funds, the department said.
