MUSC awarded $4.3M for rural health initiatives

Charleston, S.C.-based MUSC Health has received $4.28 million in grants to improve healthcare access to rural and underserved parts of South Carolina. 

MUSC will launch seven initiatives from the seven grants it received from the Duke Endowment, according to a Dec. 12 news release from the health system.  

Those initiatives are:

  • Expanding the Boeing Center for Children's Wellness program to include mental health prevention and treatment services beyond Charleston and Colleton counties: $1,335,000
  • Developing systems to support and retain a diverse healthcare workforce: $875,000
  • Improving access to dental care for children in the Carolinas: $735,000  
  • Implementing a virtual program to help children in rural South Carolina to manage asthma more effectively: $598,000
  • Developing services and resources to measure, address and prevent healthcare worker burnout in Florence: $445,000
  • Creating a statewide telehealth network for rural primary care clinics: $200,000 
  • Launching a coalition to improve population health in Chester County: $100,000
