Indianapolis-based Community Health Network is pushing back against the Justice Department's questions related to yearslong false claims allegations, Inside Indiana Business reported Feb. 20.
The Justice Department is asking Community Health to identify all employed physicians who received incentive compensation and how bonuses were calculated, the report said.
In a Feb. 17 filing, Community Health said the Justice Department's questioning was "overly broad, unduly burdensome and not proportional to the needs of the case."
The request stems from a 3-year-old lawsuit alleging Community Health engaged in a physician recruitment scheme in which huge salaries and bonuses were paid in return for referrals. The health system acknowledged that 1,201 physicians were hired between 2008 and 2020.
Community Health did not respond to a request for comment from Inside Indiana Business.
