'Free-market' healthcare reform proposals pass in Florida House

The Florida House passed a handful of healthcare proposals Wednesday that would cut regulations, potentially spur greater competition, decrease costs and increase access to care, according to The Miami Herald.

Here are the proposals that passed with broad support, according to the report.

  • HB 7087, a proposal to allow out-of-state physicians to provide telehealth services to Florida residents.
  • HB 423, which allows registered nurse practitioners and physician assistants to prescribe narcotics and other drugs.
  • HB 1175, a bill that creates greater price transparency, but does not include restrictions to stop what Gov. Rick Scott calls "price gouging."
  • HB 85, which establishes recovery centers for patients 72 hours after surgery and extends the time patients can stay at ASCs to a full 24 hours.
