The following five health systems recently released their financial statements for the three-month period ended Sept. 30.
1. St. Louis-based Ascension reported revenues of $5.55 billion in the first quarter of fiscal year 2018, which ended Sept. 30, down 1.9 percent from revenues of $5.66 billion in the same period of the year prior. The health system ended the first quarter of fiscal year 2018 with operating income of $11.48 million, down 93 percent from operating income of $172.63 million in the same period of fiscal year 2017.
2. Cleveland Clinic recorded revenues of $2.05 billion in the third quarter of 2017, which ended Sept. 30, up from revenues of $2.01 billion in the same period of the year prior. Cleveland Clinic ended the third quarter of 2017 with operating income of $39.7 million, down 32 percent from the same period of the year prior.
3. Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic saw revenues climb 9.3 percent year over year to $2.97 billion in the third quarter of 2017, which ended Sept. 30. Mayo ended the three-month period with operating income of $182 million, more than double its operating income of $86 million in the same period last year.
4. Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health ended the first quarter of fiscal year 2018, which ended Sept. 30, with revenues of $4.4 billion, up 2.9 percent from the same period of the year prior. The health system's operating income rose from $43.3 million in the first quarter of fiscal year 2017 to $80 million in the first quarter of fiscal year 2018.
5. Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center reported revenues of $686.8 million in the first quarter of fiscal year 2018. That's up 7.5 percent from revenues of $638.9 million in the first quarter of fiscal year 2017. Wake Forest Baptist ended the first quarter of fiscal year 2018 with operating income of $5.4 million, down from $5.9 million in the same period of the year prior.
