Baptist Memorial, Anderson Regional complete merger

Memphis, Tenn.-based Baptist Memorial Health Care and Meridian, Miss.-based Anderson Regional Health System have completed a merger, according to a Jan. 9 news release from Baptist.

Anderson Regional consists of two hospitals, multiple clinics and a cancer center. Prior to the merger, which was initiated with a shared mission agreement signed Oct. 18, Baptist Memorial had 22 hospitals across Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee.

The nonprofit health system, which retains the Baptist Memorial name, now has 24 hospitals. Twelve are Mississippi-based, making it the largest healthcare system in the state, the release said.

Baptist Memorial also has more than 100 clinics, a regional cancer center, a healthcare university, numerous specialty facilities and services, more than 5,400 affiliated physicians and more than 21,000 employees.

Along with updating its electronic health record system to Epic, Anderson Regional will rename its hospitals to Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center and Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center-South under the merger.
