After Heated Negotiations, Miami's Jackson Health System Cuts UM Medical School Payments by 13%

After heated budget talks, Miami-based Jackson Health System will cut its payments to the University of Miami medical school by 13 percent next year, a total of $16.5 million, according to a Miami Herald report.

According to the report, the cuts still will not balance the entire budget for the health system's upcoming fiscal year. However, UM and JHS have agreed to find an additional $36 million in savings from "value improvement initiatives."

Of the $16.5 million in cuts, $9 million will be slashed from programs that recruit UM physicians while $3 million will be cut from UM's clinical administration services.
