1. Former Merck CEO donates $250M to Columbia University medical school to eliminate student debt
Roy Vagelos, MD, former president, CEO and chairman of Merck, and his wife, Diana, donated $250 million to New York City-based Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons to fund an endowment to cover the costs of attending medical school for future students, the couple announced Dec. 4.
2. Torrance Memorial Medical Center to rename new patient tower after receiving a $22M gift
Torrance (Calif.) Memorial Medical Center received a $22 million donation from a local resident, Priscilla Hunt, to support the renovation of its North Patient Tower.
